Violet Red Bile Agar with Glucose and Lactose
Usages:
For selective isolation of Enterobacteriaceae.
Principle:
Peptone and yeast extract powder provides carbon and nitrogen sources and trace elements; lactose are fermentable sugars; sodium chloride maintains osmotic equilibrium; the 3rd bile salts and crystal violet inhibiting gram-positive bacteria, especially against Gram positive bacteria and fecal streptococci; neutral red as pH indicator.
Formulation(per litre):
Yeast extract powder 3g
Pancreatic digest of gelatin 7g
Bile salt 1.5g
Lactose 10g
Sodium chloride 5g
D-Glucose Monohydrate 10g
Neutral Red 0.03g
Crystal violet 0.002g
Agar 15g
Final pH 7.4 ± 0.2
How to use:
1.Suspend 51.5g in 1 L of distilled water , stirring heated to boiling until completely dissolved, Do not autoclave.
2.Diluted and treated samples.
